About Me

My name is Marzipan.

I have loved fiber art since I was a child, when I made wall hangings from the fabric swatches my father brought home from his manufacturing plant.

Over the years I've owned several small businesses in Philadelphia, including a construction company with my husband and a paint-your-own-pottery studio. But I kept coming back to fiber.

I had been wet felting for many years before I took the process to another level, after a devastating loss in my family. Felting became an unexpected outlet for my grief — there is something in the physical, meditative rhythm of the craft that holds me.

Wet felting is an art form in which natural fibers are exposed to hot, soapy water; a range of applied pressure transforms the loose fibers into a strong, cohesive fabric. It takes real science and math to turn loose fiber into textile and to bring each piece to its intended size. I love to embellish my work with embroidery and beading to create one-of-a-kind garments, jewelry, vessels, and landscapes.
